Jetsetters, have you ever wondered why some creators just seem to grow like crazy yet others struggle to gain traction?

I get this question a lot. Many creators and entrepreneurs struggle to build a sustainable business. They hit roadblocks when it comes to audience engagement, content creation, and monetization.

Today, I’ll dive deep into the concept of a flywheel and why every creator needs 3 types of flywheels in their business.

On today’s episode, you’ll learn:

  • 🕰 How to Create a Content Flywheel

  • 📈 How to Build a Monetization Flywheel

  • 🏆 How to Design an Audience Growth Flywheel

  • 💻 How the Flywheel Effect Leads to Momentum and Leverage

Here are a few juicy excerpts from today’s episode to get you flowing:

Building Your Audience First: "I emphasize the need to build your audience before designing or building your product. Once you have built up your audience, you can begin to create a product for your audience's pain points. And how do you create your first product? You need to know your audience inside out. Your product needs to cater to the desires and pain points of your audience." — Yong-Soo Chung (08:51)

The Flywheel Effect: "As we grow the social media, the access to guests increases. As we have larger and larger guests, the threads that we write on social media to promote the episode get more eyeballs because people want to learn lessons from those people that you had on the show. And so it becomes a flywheel of growing better guests. Those guests grow the podcast, and it just keeps feeding off itself. And that's the flywheel as a creator and a podcaster or a creator and a YouTube." — Clint Murphy (10:47)

This episode was fun to product and packed with tactical tips.

Let’s get down to business!

Why Leverage is King

On Saturday, I had this Tweet (Xeet?) go viral:

Clearly, leverage is a hot topic.

And one that is often misunderstood.

So today, I'll dig into:

  • What leverage is

  • Why it’s so important

  • How you can use it in your business

Let's dig in...

What is Leverage?

Leverage in its simplest definition is the ability to get more output per unit of time.

Time is the amplifier of leverage.

For each unit of time, you want as much output as possible.

Billionaires have mastered the art of deploying leverage.

They don't need to work yet still make more money than you because they have massive leverage on their time.

Four Types of Leverage

Naval Ravikant talks about 4 types of leverage:

Labor, capital code, and media.

Labor is people. You can hire people to do the tasks that you're currently working on so that you can spend less time on a lower value task, and focus your energy on even higher-value tasks. By building an all-star team around you, you're leveraging yourself up for bigger and better things.

Capital is using other people's money. When you buy a house, you don't necessarily put down a hundred percent to buy that house. You get a mortgage from a bank so that you can buy a house that is worth more than what you can currently afford with just cash. This is capital leverage.

Both of these types of leverage require permission. In other words, you need someone else's approval or acceptance to deploy these two types of leverage.

Now, this is where things get interesting...

The next two types of leverage are permissionless. Both code and media are types of leverage that don't require anyone's permission to deploy.

For example, when you write a piece of software, you can run that software anywhere, anytime, and the cost is nearly zero.

Same thing for media. When I record a podcast episode, I'm able to publish it and now hundreds or thousands of people can listen to the same podcast without any additional effort on my part.

Permissioned Leverage

The old way of getting rich was using labor and capital.

Hire cheap labor and raise a ton of money to fund massive projects.

Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt... they all deployed massive amounts of capital and labor to build their empires.

But, the problem is, these require permission... a buy-in.

Permissionless Leverage

Today, code and media are the new forms of leverage, which are both permissionless.

You use no-code tools, incorporate AI tools, to publish content to the world.

You build products, software, and distribute them on the internet... for free through your audience.

You don't need permission to do any of these things.

We're entering a new era of entrepreneurship, my friends.

There's never been a better time to build an audience, launch your product, and scale your company.

E-commerce fulfillment is a pain. One time, one of my customers emailed me asking me why we had shipped them an empty box. It turns out the 3PL had stolen the $1,000 product and shipped an empty box to my customer. Yeah, that was not fun.

So, I launched GrowthJet, a Climate-Neutral Certified third-party logistics company for e-commerce brands.

GrowthJet is the 3PL that I wish I had when I launched my own brand, Urban EDC.
